The idea

A payroll is a flat line. Projects arrive as a wave. Vertex lets your design cost follow the wave: we draw the fire, air, power and water for the project in hand, and you pay for that project only.

Four disciplines / one coordinated set

Four disciplines.One project fee.

  1. 01Electrical/ Power and lighting

Power and lighting,on the same base.

Power, lighting and distribution layouts, coordinated with the mechanical services.

    • Codes · SBC
    • Scope · Power, lighting, distribution
    • Fee · Per project
  2. 02HVAC/ Cooling and ventilation

Cooling and air, sized for the project.

Cooling and ventilation drawings for your project,to the codes you work to.

    • Codes · ASHRAE, SBC
    • Scope · Cooling, ventilation
    • Fee · Per project
  3. 03Fire and safety/ Firefighting and alarm

Fire and life safety,to NFPA, SBC and IBC.

Sprinklers, hose and standpipe networksand fire alarm layouts for your project.

    • Codes · NFPA, SBC, IBC
    • Scope · Firefighting, fire alarm

Fig. 03 / Cost / Payroll against workload

Illustrative, not measured data

A payroll is flat.Projects come in waves.

With an in-house team the cost stays the same in quiet months. With Vertex the design cost rises and falls with the projects you win.

A / Payroll against workload

Illustrative / one year

  • In-house payroll
  • Workload, and your cost with Vertex
  • Salary paid with no work to cover

B / In-house team

Fixed cost

  • Salaries every month, busy or quiet.
  • Four disciplines means four specialists on the payroll.
  • The cost stays the same when the work stops.

C / Vertex

Cost per project

  • A fee per project, quoted before work starts.
  • Only the disciplines that project needs.
  • No cost between projects.

D / Codes

The codes we design to

NFPA
National Fire Protection Association
ASHRAE
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
SBC
Saudi Building Code

3 offices / 10 buildings / dashed lines lead from each office

Three offices,one Atlantic arc.

Stockholm leads the work around the Baltic and the North Atlantic, Lisbon the Atlantic coast and New York the projects across the USA. Switch between Europe and the USA, or select a marker to fly to it and read its facts.

Written by the partners who took the readings

Notes fromthe field.

  1. FR-014Moisture in timber facades after three wintersSixty-four probes in the larch facade of Hallmark Library show where three subarctic winters actually left their moisture.
  2. FR-013What 400 million points cannot tell youA dense scan records geometry with great precision and says almost nothing about material, cause or change. This is how we fill the gaps.
  3. FR-012Daylight autonomy versus occupant comfortThe west-facing homes at Casa Mares scored best for daylight and worst for comfort. Sensors on the blinds showed us why.
